Thanksgiving Traditions
I know Halloween is right around the corner. And our moms’ Halloween Traditions were a huge hit. But you know what sneaks up fast after Halloween, right? Thanksgiving! So let’s hear our mama friends’ favorite Thanksgiving traditions…
Alright, Mamas… What are Your Favorite Family Thanksgiving Traditions?
1. Make Thankful Hands – “We made Thankful Hands to get the kids focused on gratitude in preparation for Thanksgiving this year.” MaryAnne from Mama Smiles
2. Make a Gratitude Chain – “We’ve made gratitude chains in addition to the standard Thanksgiving tree (add leaves for things you are grateful for).” MaryAnne from Mama Smiles
3. Go to a Parade – “My dad and I take the kids to the Thanksgiving Day parade in downtown Detroit.” Laura from Play Dr. Mom
4. Go Around the Table – “Before we eat on Thanksgiving we all go around and say 5 things we are thankful for. Sometimes it is hard for my younger daughter to come up with five but she does and we enjoy hearing everyone’s responses.” Crystal from Growing a Jeweled Rose
5. Make a Thankfulness Book – “We place 3 pieces of card stock at our table where each family member writes down what they were thankful for and reads it to our family out loud before dinner. Then we create a Thankfulness Book with the pages for our children to read over and over again as we ‘Count our Blessings’ all year long.” Kim from The Educators’ Spin On It
6. Add Memories to a Tablecloth – “We started writing messages on a table cloth and date it each year of something that was special that year to us and thankful it happened.” Catherine from Momma’s Fun World
7. Volunteer to Help the Needy – “We started a Thanksgiving tradition last year of volunteering at a community dinner for the needy in town before joining friends for our traditional family Thanksgiving Dinner. We look forward to continue that tradition this year and for many years to come. We also donate whole fruit (bananas, apples and oranges) to the dinner. They are used as table decor that families can then take with them when they leave. ” Jennifer from The Good Long Road
8. Give Homemade Goodies – “We bake some cookies and deliver them to people we are thankful for.” Brittany from Love, Play, Learn
9. Make a Thanksgiving Tree – “Last year we started a new tradition for Thanksgiving that we all really loved: The Tree of Thanks. … Each November night as we sat around the dinner table preparing to eat, our family of four would take turns saying one unique thing for which we were thankful. “I’m thankful for…” I’d write the person’s words on a [paper] leaf along with their name, and we’d hang it on our tree.” Genny from In Lieu of Preschool
10. Have a Kids’ Thanksgiving Feast – “In preschool we have a Thanksgiving Feast!” Deborah from Teach Preschool

Cute ideas! We have a tablecloth that everyone signed, and my mom embroidered them. Next year we will sign again and embroider in a new color. It was my project, but luckily she helped me out!

Oh – I love the idea of embroidering it afterward!
